Koh Samui is the biggest of a group of around 80 islands in the Gulf of Thailand. It's around 247 sqm. It wasn't until the late 1980 that it was discovered by the tourists, but it is still a very calm place to be. From Samui, you can easily make a trip by speed boat to other islands like Ko Tao or the Angthon Marine Park.

The population of the island is around 35000 inhabitants. Originally, these are fishermen, but now many found a job in the tourist sector.

Most of the local people are Buddhists. Everywhere on the island, you will find religious symbols like temples, Buddha's footprints and 2 mummified monks. When a respected monk dies, it can happen that his body is mummified to be an example for further generations.

Of course, you can enjoy nature the whole day. But in the evening, there is also a very rich nightlife.
